Add Feed to Your Reader! WildCharge Now Powers Netbooks, Too WildCharge (which now wants to be called PureEnergy) said it will launch a range of new wireless power products at the CTIA show in San Diego this week. (Our CTIA coverage is here.)Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot of detail, but the company said it plans a new "high-powered WildCharger Pad "that supports the charging of up to two netbooks and five mobile devices simultaneously", plus a version of its PowerDisc also designed for netbooks, from Acer, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. We've previously performed a hands-on of the standard WildCharger Pad. In addition, WildCharge plans to release a microUSB tip for those devices that need it, as well as WildCharge skins for the Blackberry Curve 8900, Bold 9000 and Curve 8350i. Unfortunately, we don't have price or availability data for any of them.

It can charge two devices at one time, but it costs a hefty $69.95. For those who are happy charging one device at a time and would like to save some money, Callpod has just released the Fueltank Uno. It sells for a more reasonable $49.95. When fully charged, its lithium ion battery can charge a device three to five times. A backlit LED capacity indicator lets you know how much charge you've got left. The Uno comes with adapters for the iPod or iPhone and miniUSB devices. You'll also get a voucher for one free adapter, redeemable on the Callpod Web site. If you hate getting low-power messages on your phone or music player, keep a loaded Fueltank on hand.

Add Feed to Your Reader! Piano Stairs Motivate People to use Stairs When going anywhere where you’ll find a staircase next to escalators you will find that most people use the easy way where they don’t have to do much work. For this reason the Piano Stairs were trialled to see if adding a bit of fun in to a staircase could tempt more people in to using the steps. The creators made each step play a different note on a piano so that when people walk up or down they go from the high end of the keyboard to the lower octaves or vice versa. The camera capturing people showed a 66% increase in people using the stairs once they were made a bit more fun. Check out the video below to see it in action. Although I am sure it would work the first few times people saw the piano stairs I am sure after a couple of days people would get board and go back to their lazy usual ways. Add Feed to Your Reader! WiMax-based personal WIFI hotspot [CEATEC 2009] UQ, the sole Wimax carrier in Japan was showing this personal Wi-Fi hotspot device. It connects to the internet via WiMax, and serves as a wireless router for your personal devices. It’s like a MiFi, if you are familiar with that one. When WiMax is not available (in the subway and other “difficult” places), users can connect freely via Wi-Fi, thanks to the partnership between UQ and paid Wi-Fi providers. Coverage is not ubiquitous, but latency and speed should be better than 3.5G. If you wonder, it costs about $40 for a 30-day subscription and there’s no contract!
